Based out of a small town of Bilzen, Belgium, is Joris Cielen and Stijn Vanspauwen. Together, they created Joyhauser. This duo style is a unique blend of techno trance and Belgium’s own rave sound. Both were DJ’s and Producers but came together through their shared love of music to bring about this distinctive style. After several years of creating music together, they finally made their break in 2018 with a musical project “Galaxy Phase” which made a huge splash on the international stage. Patrik Adolfsson, a celebrated DJ and producer from Stockholm, Sweden, got his start in music with 8-bit computer compositions for video game intros. As he moved into his teenage years, Patrik began playing with synthesizers and drum machines as part of the 80’s synthpop band Woltage. After leaving the group, he went on to explore a different sound; Electronic Body Music (EBM), which encompasses industrial music, synth-punk and dance music. Check out his latest track “Sockervadd”.

Let’s take a brief break for Vinyl’s From The Past. In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this latest episode I will be featuring “Humanoid”.
Brian Dougan, a British DJ and Producer, is the mastermind behind the musical project known as “Humanoid.” He was also one-half of The Future Sounds of London; which was an influential electronic music duo. In 1988, “Humanoid” gained recognition with the release of “Stakker Humanoid”. Take a listen to it here.
“Stakker Humanoid” was considered one of the most influential tracks of acid house. Roland TB-303 synthesizer, which was used in the production of this track; was a key component of acid house genre and its melodies became an integral part of EDM. “Humanoid” also featured some modern production techniques such as sampling and sequencing, which further enhanced its appeal. These innovative touches set it apart from other tracks at the time. This track inspired artist and remains influential in EDM history.

It appears that many other musicians agree with Sting’s view on this matter, stressing the importance of human capital in music creation.

At this year’s Music Biz conference, there was a distinct change in attitude towards streaming fraud. To highlight its importance, a 120-minute panel was dedicated to discussing it. While financial motivation is believed to be behind 80% of cases, there has been some success in detecting and stopping fraud early. It appears that now more than ever before, music businesses are taking fraud seriously.
