Google Top Searched June Trends Transcription

Announcer0:00: Mason Vera Paine.

Mason Paine0:02: The end of June is upon us. And joining me today to discuss some of the top search trends from this past month is Google trends expert Marley McAliley. Thanks for joining me, Marley.

Marley McAliley 0:11: Thank you so much for having me.

Mason Paine0:12: So, you know, one thing I’m always excited about is sales. And I have to know, was there any sales trending in this past June for sales?

Marley McAliley 0:20: People were really interested in different topics around weddings and wedding budgets. People were interested also in different wedding dress styles. So wedding season was really taking center stage. People are trying to figure out, you know, how they can keep their wedding under a budget. Something that was trending was actually a term that I recently heard about, which is called micro wedding. And micro wedding actually just means a small wedding or wedding under 50 people. So a lot of people are trying to figure out, you know, how they can celebrate their big day and do so under a budget.

Mason Paine0:53: You know, I’ve never had the privilege of being part of, like, a wedding like that. Have you ever had wedding planning experience?

Marley McAliley 0:59: I don’t have any wedding planning experience. I’ve been to a few weddings, but all of them have been on the larger side. So I think it’s nice, the idea of having a more intimate ceremony with only your closest friends and family.

Mason Paine -1:12: I kind of like that idea, too, because, like you’ve said, I’ve only been to, like, the big weddings. And the only thing I’m really worried about is is it an open bar? You know, what kind of food are they having? But I think it would be kind of nice to have something really tiny because then you could probably spend more money, and it feels like it’s more, you know, like maybe you can go with duck instead of chicken.

Marley McAliley 1:31: Yeah, absolutely. You can splurge on certain areas that you normally wouldn’t be able to with a larger party size, for sure.

Mason Paine1:37: Zachary now, besides the catering, was there anything else that was kind of trending with the wedding season because it is pretty large?

Marley McAliley 1:43: Yes. We saw a lot of different questions around what pertains to a wedding. So basically, what do you wear to a wedding? What hand does a wedding ring go on? When do you send wedding invitations? What to write in a wedding card? So lots of questions on just, like, general best practices when it comes to attending weddings.

Mason Paine2:03: What else happened in June?

Marley McAliley 2:05: Tv we had some great June premieres this past month. A lot of people are interested in Bridgerton. Bridgerton was the top trending premiere in June. People were searching questions related to the show, such as does call and forgive Penelope? Does Eloise and Penelope make up people are also really excited about House of the dragon, and high Valyrian is actually the top trending how to learn for languages, and that’s the made up language that they speak in House of Dragons and in Game of Thrones.

Mason Paine -2:35: I’m curious, have you watched any of these shows? Because I sure have not.

Marley McAliley 2:39: I’ve seen Bridgerton. I’m a big fan of Bridgerton. I’ve seen all of the seasons. So, yeah, I basically binge the third season this past weekend, so that was an enjoyable time. I don’t watch House of the Dragons, but my boyfriend does, and he seems to be really into it now.

Mason Paine2:57: Bridgerton, I’m not gonna lie. I’ve been kind of, like, teetering on it because it’s so popular. You’re kind of wondering what all of the fuss is about. So tell me from firsthand experience, what is the fuss? Why should I be invested in this?

Marley McAliley -3:09: I think it’s just really romantic sizes, a bygone era, you know, when you’re looking back at, like, Renaissance Europe and the fancy dresses and the string instruments, the music is a huge aspect of the Bridgerton tv show. So what they do, which is really cool, is they do renditions, classical renditions of pop songs. So songs like from Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter. They’ll redo in the Bridgerton style with a string quartet. So that’s very cool to hear.

Mason Paine3:43: What? I had no idea they did that. That is so interesting.

Marley McAliley -3:47: Yeah, yeah. It’s very cool. There’s a scene from this newest season, actually, where the main couple in the show, they do a dance to love story by Taylor Swift, and it’s done in this classical fashion with a string quartet.

Mason Paine -4:00: That is pretty cool. I’m not gonna lie. I may just look up little clips just for the music, because that really piqued my interest.

Marley McAliley -4:07: Yeah, the music is definitely worth checking out.

Mason Paine4:11: Father’s Day. What did you do for Father’s Day?

Marley McAliley -4:13: For Father’s Day, I actually spent it in the woods with my boyfriend’s dad, so that was a nice way to celebrate for him. He’s a huge camper, and we did a compromise for his family. We went glamping in the Catskills of New York, which was a wonderful way to spend the weekend. We were able to, you know, have the luxuriousness of nice amenities and our tents and airstreams, but also still get a chase of the outdoors and do some hiking. So it was a great time.

Mason Paine -4:40: That’s pretty cool. I’m trying to think, what did I do with my dad. I took him to Golden Corral. I don’t know why. He’s really into buffets. Super stoked for him, right? He loves it. He loves buffets. And I went with my sister, just took him to Golden Corral, and it was a pretty cheap date, but that’s what he wanted.

Mason Paine4:59: And, you know, I’m not going to say no to my dad, especially on dad’s day, you know?

Marley McAliley -5:03: Absolutely. And you know, what? If he’s easy to please, like, can’t go wrong with that, right?

Mason Paine5:08: He didn’t ask for, like, a tv or some kind of, like, really expensive electronic. He was like, just feed me.

Marley McAliley 5:15: That’s awesome.

Mason Paine5:16: The NBA Finals. Are you into basketball at all?

Marley McAliley 5:19: I’m actually not very into basketball, but I do know that it was a very highly anticipated finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics, but the Boston Celtics taking the title. It is interesting, though, because throughout the country search interest in Dallas Mavericks was much higher than for the Boston Celtics, including in Illinois. So a lot of excitement around the Mavericks, but the Celtics took the title this year.

Mason Paine5:47: I’m super into basketball and I was so disappointed by how this all turned out. I was really rooting for Denver nuggets to make it through and they didn’t make it through, but I’m like, I can live with the Mavericks going through it and I’m like, you know, Kyrie Irving, he’s, he’s pretty. I’m excited about him as a player. But then they lost to the Celtics and I’m like, eh, I don’t know if I can be happy, but I’m sure other people were incredibly happy because, you know, Boston Celtics has a huge, huge fan base, just not with me.

Marley McAliley -6:17: Yeah, definitely. I feel like they are like a pretty polarizing team from what I’ve heard as well. So, yeah, definitely some strong feelings about the result, but at least glad you said there are definitely some people out there, specifically in New England that are really happy.

Mason Paine -6:34: Yeah, right. I’m trying to think what else happened in June. Oh, pride month. All throughout June, was pride, was there any kind of trends for that?

Marley McAliley -6:43: Yeah, we saw people searching the top pride parades, which included New York, Chicago, Washington, DC. People are also looking up different pride themed outfits like rainbow crop tops and rainbow skirts. That was trending a lot this past month as people are figuring out how to, you know, get in the mood and get into theme and celebrate pride. People were also searching some of the top turning gate icons, which included chapel, Roan and Marsha P. Johnson.

Mason Paine -7:13: Have you ever been to a pride parade. They’re pretty fun.

Marley McAliley -7:15: I have. I love them. I grew up in Los Angeles, in West Hollywood, actually, so they’re famous for their gay pride parade there and then I’ve been to the ones in New York as well and it’s always a great time.

Mason Paine -7:26: As a child, I loved going to the Chicago Pride. It was bustling. There was so much to do. People were barbecuing in some areas and it was always, it felt like one gigantic, like, block party. But I think the last year I went, I got so burnt that I’m so afraid to go get it.

Marley McAliley -7:44: Oh, yeah, you definitely need to like pack if you can, like a long sleeves, even though it’s so hot. It’s hard to do. And sunscreen for sure. But yeah, I don’t blame you. It’s been really hot in New York as well these past few weeks, so I haven’t been going outside all that much.

Mason Paine8:00: It’s total air conditioner. Like anywhere I go. Do they have air conditioner? My car is full blast air conditioner. I am not stepping out into this hot, muggy air.

Marley McAliley 8:09: Yeah, exactly.

Mason Paine8:10: Was there anything that we missed in June that you thought was interesting that you’d like to talk about?

Marley McAliley -8:14: I always think the odd news is fun just to see what kind of odd topics are piquing people’s interest each month. And this month it was baby names and there was a lot of search interest around the top trending baby names with the letters PAV as the top trending baby names that start with. People are also searching Bridgerton inspired names and Taylor Swift inspired names. And some of the top trending baby names were actually quite interesting, which I was excited to hear. Some of them included Freya, Ezra, Sloan, Eliana, which I thought was really cool to see.

Mason Paine -8:51: Oh, those are cool baby names.

Marley McAliley -8:53: Yeah.

Mason Paine8:54: I don’t know if I want a cool baby name. Do I want to go with like a plain Jane, like Jane baby name?

Marley McAliley -9:02: I really, I personally like unique names, but it’s very common in my boyfriend’s family to like name after the parent or the grandparent. They have very traditional like names from the Bible. So yeah, I think be the case for both sides. It’ll definitely probably be a hot topic in my household one day, but yeah, for now I think it’s cool just seeing what’s trending out there and what other people are choosing for baby names.

Mason Paine9:27: It is exciting. I know my sister; she had picked her baby names when she was like twelve. I remember that. And I was thinking like she named her kids. I’m like, she had this plan the whole time, buddy. She knew about the kids way before you.

Marley McAliley 9:42: Exactly.

Mason Paine9:44: Well, Marley thank you so much for joining me. I really appreciate you being here. And for those listening, where can they find out about all these trends?
