Mason Paine & Justin Burr: May Google Trends 2022
Mason Paine: It’s that time of the month again in Google has released the top search trends for the month of May, 2022. Google trends expert. Justin Bird joins me to give her.
Mason Paine: Thanks for joining me, Justin really appreciate you being here, man.
Justin Burr: Thanks for having me, always pleasure,
Mason Paine: Tell me about med gala. Cause that happened this month.
Justin Burr: Yeah, the Met Gala, it’s fun.
Justin Burr: I don’t know anything about fashion, but I’m trying to become a more fashionable individual one. So it’s fun to look at the Met Gala and see all the insane things these celebrities are wearing. So if you remember, the theme was gilded age and I don’t know how much people really adhere to the theme. So the top trending celebrities from the female side, Kim Kardashians, she was trending because she wore Marilyn Monroe JFK’s birthday dress.
Justin Burr: They track fairly iconic, pretty rad, stoked about it on the men side, bad bunny coming in as number one, he was wearing this like berberi. Like trench coat looking kind of thing, but it became a dress. So it was like, it was like a normal trench coat up top, but then it like filtered down into a dress below it looked cool.
Justin Burr: His hair was rad. I was into it. It’s hard for me to really understand what’s happening from a fashion perspective. But it’s cool to look at.
Mason Paine: Yeah, I’d say I was trying to look up some stuff about Met gala and that stuff is really. You’re either in it and you know it, or you don’t know anything. And I kind of don’t like that, that division right there, but it was either gilded age or gilded style.
Mason Paine: I saw such a division online about what exactly was the theme. I’m glad to know it was gilded age, which they didn’t go by anyways.
Justin Burr: They never really go by the theme. And the theme is always super arbitrary as well. I think like the year before, the year before that it was camp. So it’s like, what do you mean?
Justin Burr: Like you dress like you’re going to summer camp or. I don’t know, they just, the themes are interesting. I’m curious, like , who’s in charge of that. And like, if you don’t adhere to it, they kind of furrow your brow. Actually. Speaking of brows, Kendall Jenner, bleached her eye brows, and it looked, she looked pretty weird.
Justin Burr: So she’s coming in number five on the trending list, but yeah, interesting to bleach the eyebrows. It looked like they were almost absent from her face, but if you look closely, you can still see them kind of cool look, honestly..
Mason Paine: So kind of like the Whoopi Goldberg, but she didn’t shave it off kind of a effect.
Mason Paine: Another thing that happened, this month is mother’s day. What did you get your mother, I’m just curious.
Justin Burr: I got her a little card that said something about how I’m cut from the same cloth as her, which gets me fired up, wrote her a nice little note. And then I printed out a bunch of photos of us over the past few years.
Justin Burr: And sent it to her because, you know, I feel like, I feel like I’m at the age where parents are at the age where like, you don’t need any more stuff there. He wants some memories. You want some kind words and you want some photos, dude, nobody’s ever going to get mad at photos. So that’s, that’s what I got her.
Justin Burr: What did you, what did you do?
Mason Paine: I did last minute. Shopping went to a flower shop near my house, and I bought her a very expensive, a bouquet of flowers because that was the only one left. And I didn’t have a choice.
Justin Burr: Well, there you go. I mean, if we look at search interest last minute and mother’s day gift ideas that spike by over 1100%, maybe we’ll put you in that category.
Mason Paine: No, it was me. I was just Googling it like constantly, like trying to see if something new would come up. That was all just me.
Justin Burr: Why was there a safe bet? Yeah. You were just, you were all 1100% of it. Keep searching for it. You never go wrong with .
Mason Paine: it had a basket and my mother loves baskets, so it was kind of like a win-win, but I want to say I paid I wasn’t 85 or $90 for it, and yet it was small to.
Mason Paine: I was like, oh, but this is the only one here. And I didn’t get my mom a card and my sister was already taking out for breakfast. So I was like, oh, I’m going to copy her if I take her out to dinner. So I got her flowers.
Justin Burr: Hey, that’s that’s good. You know, $85 basket there. You got one that shows your mom. You love her.
Mason Paine: It better, it better. She better know. I love her. Maybe I should have just given her the money. You think that would have been better .
Justin Burr: Giving your mom cash on mother’s day is pretty silly. I mean, honestly, she probably would have appreciated that more. You could probably do more with 85 bucks. Then you can with a basket of flowers, but, you know, the thought that counts.
Mason Paine: Speaking of money to give people it’s a graduation season, at least for the last month. So we did that ping at all.
Justin Burr: The number one trend related graduation was graduation, present ideas. Well, it’s funny. People are always trying to Google, present ideas.
Justin Burr: I know I do the same. I don’t know. Let’s get creative here. People maybe think about it on your own side. Don’t go to Google to sort out your present ideas. Let’s get within the own mind, but you know, present ideas for graduation. Give them money dude. They poor, in no high school or college graduate has any sort of spare change speak of..
Justin Burr: So give them, give them one of those. I think another interesting trend from graduation, which I find particularly fascinating, actually, I’m going to ask you, see if you know, so everyone was looking for graduation, tassel sides, you know what side it’s supposed to start on and what side did hassles supposed to end on when you walk across the stage?
Mason Paine: Isn’t it. The left side.
Justin Burr: Correct. You got it left to right? There you go. You don’t even have to look it up. I feel like that’s counterintuitive. I feel like I would’ve thought right left, but you know, no.
Mason Paine: Cause I was thinking doesn’t it start? Like, when you do prejudice pledge of allegiance, it goes over your heart. So I’m like, doesn’t it go the other way? I’m probably just making this up in my head, but for me it makes sense. Right?
Justin Burr: I mean, whatever helps you memorize it, that I don’t think that there’s any correlation to your heart and the pledge of allegiance. But again, like if you have that association and helps you remember it, power to you.
Mason Paine: You know, speaking of graduation ideas like to give as a present for my cousins when they were getting into college. And even like when they were out of college, we would give them like four boxes of like those ramen. And that was like, and they were so gracious for it. Like, oh my God, ramen noodles. And I’m like, yeah, dude. That’s like the best gift to give to a college student.
Justin Burr: That’s meals for weeks man. Nothing says college more than just an abundance of noodles that you can be in a coffee maker.
Justin Burr: Ramen noodles. That’s a, that’s a good again. I’m into it.
Mason Paine: So for travel, was there anything that was like the top destinations?
Justin Burr: I think Memorial day is kind of the unofficial start of summer and with the travel. So we looked at top trending destinations.
Justin Burr: For Google flights to travel between June and August and number one is Orlando. Then we got Cancun, Las Vegas, London, and New York, but people are also searching for will flight prices go down soon. That search inquiry is increased over 200% over the past few weeks. Cause yeah. flights are spendy right now, bro.
Mason Paine: Wow. So usually for me, this is like the start of summer is barbecuing. So I’m kind of surprised that wasn’t like in the top, thing?
Justin Burr: So may apparently is national barbecue month. And we looked at some of the trends around.
Justin Burr: Yeah, I guess it makes sense. You know, people are starting to fire up the grills, but we looked at some trends around like how to grill blank. And so how to grow salmon, how to grow corn on the cob, how to grow chicken, asparagus and steak are the top five, make sense to salmon. I feel like. There’s a lot of different avenues you can take, you can do it on like the wood planks.
Justin Burr: You can do it on some foil. Can you just do it straight up on the grill? I don’t even know. I haven’t barbecue samon, I think maybe ever in my entire life, but it sounds pretty dang.
Mason Paine: Now we usually do catfish. I don’t know why I love catfish on the grill. That’s like the best thing ever. I imagine it’s the same as samon, right?.
Mason Paine: I would assume, what do you do? Do you put it on the plank? You put on the foil? Oh, we
Mason Paine: We have like this special, like grate. It goes into, and it like locks in and then you just put it over, not direct heat, but you put the coal to the side and it’s just, it just like cooks that way and it’s nice and slow. And you put all kinds of like green onions and like, you know, little carrots and stuff that go in there. And it’s, it’s actually really good.
Justin Burr: The catfish, connoisseur. That sounds, nice, i’m into it.
Mason Paine: Now, asparagus, that one, I was a little shocked about it. I didn’t know. You can link, just throw that on there. I imagine you have to have that like in aluminum foil, right?
Justin Burr: Probably aluminum flow. Right? Cause it could fall in between the grates of the grill, but yeah, I don’t know. Asparagus kind of hit or miss for me. I think what’s interesting. It’s not trending on the list. It’s like a lot of people are grilling fruits nowadays, like real pineapple. I had some, I had some barbecued, watermelon last summer and dude, it was sick. I was fired up on it. I recommend it.
Mason Paine: What do you do with it? You just throw it on the, like on the grill, that’s it?
Justin Burr: Yeah. Throw it, throw it straight up on the grill. You get the little grill marks. It’s like, it adds just a little bit of like smokey flavor, which is in good contrast to the sweetness of the watermelon. And I feel like it like makes it jucier. I don’t know. It was something about like biting into like a hot piece of like smokey fruit. That was an interesting just culinary excursion for my mouth and taste, bud,
Mason Paine: You know, I’m kind of shocked. It wasn’t even like seasoned. You put a little salt, a little lime. I mean, that usually acts like it’s perfection. Right. But then grilled , I bet that would’ve been.
Justin Burr: Love. Love. Love. Okay. Well, Hey, we gotta try it. Everybody listen to him, dude, throwing some salt throw in line pop it’s tough. The old fruit on the old barbecue and see what happens
Mason Paine: Now, I know a lot of people should have been Googling about the NBA finals, like, or the playoffs, like was there a lot of that.
Justin Burr: Yeah, there was a lot. So we took the top searched NBA players that are in the conference finals and number one, trending player, Steph Curry, and number two with Dončić then you’ve got Jordan Poole from the golden state warriors, Jason Tatum from the Celtics and then Jimmy Butler on the heat. And then there was also a lot of search interests, basically once the playoffs started. People were searching for Celtics versus warriors in the NBA finals. So somehow they knew, even though the Celtics are not in it yet, they’re going to clinch. They can potentially clinch tonight, but warriors are in the finals. But also we looked at the geographical representation around who was searching for which teams across the country. And the warriors are dominating search interests. Like if you look at the. Basically every single state is searching for the golden state warriors, except for a few. I mean, obviously Texas is searching for the Dallas Mavericks, the Miami heat, the only place that they are, the top search team is in their home state of Florida. So I dunno if search interest is any indication of where they’re going to win yet another title.
Mason Paine: So the entire country already knows that this is a dub nation. Let it be known. Let it be known. We are a dub nation. I’m sorry. I’m so biased. I’m so biased. I’m sorry. I want them to win so badly. I like Steph Curry. What can I say? The whole splash brothers. I love it. Gold blooded baby.
Justin Burr: Yeah, they play fun brand to basketball. I am glad that I’m alive in the era to watch. Stephen Curry shoot the basketball because it’s a word. But I don’t know. I just can’t root for him, but you know, I wish them success, I guess, I just want competitiveness.
Mason Paine: He makes it look too easy. I feel like he is even trying half the time. I don’t know. I don’t know. Sometimes I wonder like, is he just going out there and he’s just magnificent and it’s like, are you trying? I want to see him try. And sometimes.
Justin Burr: He has so much fun with it. It is effortless. You’re right. Like he just knows what’s happening in the game of basket. Better than anybody else on the court. And he’s just flowing through traffic and throwing up these just outrageous shots. And they’re going in. He’s good at
Mason Paine: Half the time he’s just smiling and he’s giggling and he does this little shimmy and it’s like, bro, where you playing with me? You’re playing with my life. Is this what’s happening?
Justin Burr: That little shimmy man, if I was guarding him and he hit a three in my face and did that shimmy, I’d be not that he’s having fun with it. He can’t help it.
Mason Paine: It’s like, get me off the court, get me off the court. I can’t be here with him, not with the shimmy. Before I let you go, was there any odd news or anything weird that was being Googled? This month.
Justin Burr: Yeah, I’m fired up on this one. There’s this thing called burrito tape, which these students or researchers or whoever at Johns Hopkins university invented. And it’s basically just edible adhesive that you can use in a variety of situations. I think the number one use case that people are touting is for burrito. You know, we’ve all been there. You make glorious burrito, you roll it up and you start to eat it and it falls apart. And you just got these remnants of a burrito on your plate, and you’re trying to piece them together. It doesn’t have to be that way. You’ve got burrito, tape, tape up your burrito, make sure the structural integrity stays intact while you chomp on it. I think it’s genius. And you can also use that per se, you know, a grilled cheese so that when you flip it over the cheese doesn’t fly out or a quesadilla, a quesadilla, or a sandwich. That’s a little bit over stuff. I don’t know. options are limitless when it comes to burrito tape and just edible tape in general. It’s 2022. I can’t believe we’ve existed so long without .
Mason Paine: You can put it on a banana. Why not? Let’s let’s do it. Let’s let’s peel a banana, take it out of its skin and put burrito tape on it. Is it. I hope it’s flavored. I want it to be flavored.
Justin Burr: You know, that’s a good cue. That’s a good cue. Yeah, I guess I don’t really know why you’d put burrito tape on a, on a banana, but heck. Why not? Yeah. Put it on everything.
Mason Paine: Well, it’s to get it back dressed again, you take it out of the peel to just put it back into appeal and then you eat it. I want to do it. That’s what I’m going to do. This is, this is my lifestyle. i got it.
Justin Burr: Going to be a busy weekend for you, just burrito, tape, and bananas. That sounds fun.
