Let’s take a brief break for Vinyl’s From The Past. In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this episode I will be featuring Darude.
From a young age, Darude was passionate about music and experimented with different genres and styles. During the 90s, he shifted his focus to EDM becoming a DJ and Producer creating his own tracks. Due to its infectious melody “Sandstorm” was a representation of the evolving trance sound; that had a mainstream appeal. The popularity of this track also coincided with the growing power of the internet at the time. People were sharing and promoting this track online which actually made it the first viral track before viral became a thing on social media. In addition, this track also showcased the European trance genre which included pulsating rhythms and a euphoric atmosphere.
