Let’s take a brief break for some music news.

As more and more people turn to streaming services to listen to music, artists have become increasingly concerned about the low royalties they receive. However, the competition watchdog in the United Kingdom has said that intervention in the market is unlikely to help the situation.

Fans of music have seen the cost of paying for services such as Spotify fall by a fifth, while a study found that average royalty rates in major deals with artists have increased from 19.7% to 23.

We are going to take one final break for some music news.

After an investigation, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) found that both iHeartMedia and eleven smaller radio networks accepted payment from Alphabet Inc.’s, in exchange for endorsements of the Pixel 4 smartphone.

According to the FTC’s complaint, these actions constituted ‘deceptive advertising,’ as the radio hosts had not actually used the phone prior to reading the endorsement. In total, over $4.5 million was paid out by Alphabet Inc.

Both iHeartMedia and the smaller networks have agreed to settle with the FTC.
