As music streaming services become more popular, many local libraries are now offering their own versions to patrons. These services typically focus on promoting and supporting local artists, and often offer non-exclusive licenses to make albums available to the community.
The concept of library-sponsored music streaming originated in 2014 when Preston Austin and Kelly Hiser helped build the Yahara Music Library for the Madison (Wisconsin) Public Library. Since then, similar services have popped up across the U.S.

In a major blunder, YouTube took down two of the most popular live-streaming music videos after users filed false copyright claims. The Lofi Girl channel tweeted on Sunday that its videos had been taken down, and received a copyright strike. Channels can be removed permanently from YouTube after receiving multiple strikes. Together, these two videos have a total of 797,341,998 views. YouTube admitted in a tweet that it mistakenly took them down after people abused the reporting system.
