Announcer – 0:00: Mason Vera Paine.

Mason Paine – 0:01: The Olympics are here. Find out what are some of the top searches of fans during the Summer games with Google trends expert Jessica Flores. Thanks for joining me, Jessica.

Jessica Flores – 0:10: Great to be here. Nice to talk to you.

Mason Paine – 0:12: So, Olympics, it just started, but you know what, how long is it going to last for?

Jessica Flores – 0:17: Oh, I love the Olympics. I think it's 16 days. Right. And we are seeing a bunch of things people are searching for on Google already. They want to know the schedule. They want to know exactly that. Like how long is this going to last for? They want to know when folks are going to do certain events. We're seeing big breakout search terms like artistic gymnastics.

Jessica Flores – 0:39: We're seeing a breakdancing. We have a huge spike there because of course, it's the first time. Break dancing is part of the Summer Olympics. A lot of people, they want to.

Mason Paine – 0:48: Know what that about break dancing. Oh, my God. I didn't even know that was a thing. Has it started yet?

Jessica Flores – 0:54: That's a good question. Let's look. Let's Google that. I believe breakdown thing is, it's a little bit away. But the cool thing is Google is going to help you through all of these questions. So if you google anything like breakdown thing, you know, us Olympic schedule, it will show you right at the very top, an information panel that will give you everything you need to know so you don't have to click through seven different websites to figure that out. So, for example, I'm seeing right now, okay, breaking the pre qualifier battle 07:00 a.m. August 9.

Jessica Flores – 1:26: So you know right away, okay, that's when I can watch it. And the other thing is it customizes it to your local time so it knows exactly like, okay, so if you're in the Chicago area, it's going to give you time based on where you are.

Mason Paine – 1:41: Oh, my God. That is really helpful because that's true. I remember way back when, when I would watch the Olympics religiously, you know, like, especially in Japan, some of those events started at like three in the morning, so you didn't know you had to convert the time. That's a lot of stuff I don't want to do.

Jessica Flores – 1:58: Right, and the other thing is you're not going to wake up at 03:00 a.m. to watch every game. So you want to know, okay, where, where, who has the most medal, who won? And you can just, when you google Olympics or Olympic medal count, something like that right at the very top, it'll give you a breakdown of all the countries and it'll show you who's leading the way? So us right now, I believe the last I check was around 20 medals. We have a couple of gold medals in there. Yesterday, the men's artistic gymnastics team took home the bronze, which was like the first time they took home a medal in almost two decades, 16 years, I believe. And there's also a hometown Olympian there that helped the men team...]]>

Google New Years Trends Transcription

Announcer 00:00: Mason Vera Paine.

Mason Paine 00:01: it's 2024 and people are already hitting Google searching for information about health, travel and more. Robert Ferrara joins me to speak about the new year's trends. Thanks for joining me, Robert.

Robert Ferrara 00:13: Thanks for having me. Happy New Year.

Mason Paine 00:15: You know, what are some of the top search new Year resolutions people are searching for?

Robert Ferrara 00:20: Now is that time of year. You know, everyone's thinking about their New Year's resolutions, how to better themselves for 2024, and we're really seeing that reflected across all of our search trends as well on Google. So this year, resolutions are always top of mind in January that we see in our results. But the categories that we're seeing, not surprising. The first one is health and wellness. So that includes physical health, mental wellness, really the whole gamut there. Also, right after that is financial. Also, one we see pretty consistently year over year things related to money and how you can be more budget conscious and manage your money more effectively in the new year.

Robert Ferrara 00:57: And then finally, the third one was a bit of a breakout and a little surprising to us, too, which is really cool. So green and ecofriendly resolution were some of the top ones as well. So a lot of people thinking about the kinds of products they buy, whether they're deemed ecofriendly, sustainable fashion, how to be more green at home, just trying to lessen their environmental impact this year.

Mason Paine 1:17: That one is pretty interesting. How would that look in the trends? Is that kind of like, how would. I impact the environment less? Like, what can I eat or what can I do? What does that look like?

Robert Ferrara 1:28: I think there's a lot of attention to what we're consuming as a big one. So, for example, we're seeing a big spike in ecofriendly cleaning products, things that we buy every day for our household that we might have overlooked, and what kind of chemicals and materials go into these products, what is the impact they have on planet and things like that. A big thing, too, that we're seeing is sustainable fashion as well. More of a concern over fast fashion and making sure that you understand the kind of materials the garments are made out of, what kind of labor went into creating them. Is it something that's going to last for a long time? All these things that people really want to think about before making that purchase, and then even goes for larger purchases as well, which is very interesting. A funding one we spoke to with sustainable engagement ring searches really increased as well. Whether that's like vintage or pre owned or lab grown diamonds, and people doing research on alternative engagement rings, it's really interesting to see how these pains year over year.

Mason Paine 2:29: Was there any differences from last year to this year?

Google Trends February Transcription

[00:00] – Announcer: Mason Vera Paine.

[00:01] - Mason Paine: Sarah Armstrong, Google Trends expert, is here to share the most popular trends that people search on Google in the month of February. Thanks for joining me, Sarah.

[00:09] - Sarah Armstrong: Thank you for having me.

[00:11] - Mason Paine: So for this month, man, there was so much that happened. But for me, at least, I think Super Bowl was the biggest thing. What was the top search trend for that?

[00:20] - Sarah Armstrong: So what struck me as funny with the Super Bowl is Rihanna pregnant. That was the big trend of the night. In fact, it wasn't just our big trend for the Super Bowl. That day, it was the top trending search on Google overall. So lots of folks were interested in that half time show.

[00:37] - Mason Paine: That's hilarious. It wasn't even the actual game. Mahone's wasn't even up there.

[00:43] - Sarah Armstrong: Right. Like, of course, we're seeing players trending. The mom of the two players who has sons on both teams. We saw a lot of search interest around her. Different questions about football rules and stuff for folks who aren't as familiar with football but probably tuning into the Super Bowl. The commercials were really popular as well, especially the Fast 10 trailer that saw a lot of search interest. But it was that half time show that really got people searching.

[1:11] - Mason Paine: Yeah, that half time show, it was pretty lit. But as soon as Rihanna came out, first thing I thought of was like, Wait, she's pregnant? I didn't hear anything about that. And then I thought...

[1:21] - Sarah Armstrong: I know. And of course, I'm one of the people searching, is Rihanna pregnant?

[1:24] - Mason Paine: Yeah. And I thought I was being rude at first. Maybe she's not pregnant and she's just eating really good and I shouldn't say she's pregnant. That's rude. And then it turns out she's pregnant and I felt, Okay, I feel pretty vindicated.

[1:36] - Sarah Armstrong: Totally. And her partner, ASAP Rocky, we saw a big spike in search interest for him as well. So that couple was definitely popular.

[01:44] - Mason Paine: Now, another thing that happen was the Grammys that go up at high in the searches at all?

[1:48] - Sarah Armstrong: Definitely. We saw a huge spike in the Grammys earlier this month. Viola Davis was one of our big searches because she earned an EGOT with her Grammys win. So that means she has an EMI, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony now. She's one of very few people who have achieved all four of those awards. So it was pretty exciting.

Super Bowl 57 Transcription

[00:00:00] – Announcer: Mason Vera Paine.

[00:00:02] - Mason Paine: Super Bowl 57 was one of the biggest sporting events this past weekend. Millions of fans watched the game commercials in Half Time Show. Google trends expert Annanya Raghavan speaks about some of the top trends during the big game. Thanks for joining me, Ananya.

[00:00:16] - Annanya Raghavan: Yeah, thank you for having me.

[00:00:18] - Mason Paine: All right, we just went through Super Bowl 57. I have to ask, were you excited about it?

[00:00:23] - Annanya Raghavan: I was super stoked coming into it because I'm an Eagles fan. So it's always great when your team is playing in the big game. Obviously, not the result I would have wanted, but I got to admit, it was a great game.

[00:00:39] - Mason Paine: Oh, man, I'm not a Chiefs or an Eagle fan, but I had to choose because obviously, if your team doesn't make it, you have to make a choice. And I put all my money, my fictional money, obviously, on the Eagles because I thought that they were going to win. I was like, they had a phenomenal season. They looked really good going in. I was like, There's no way the Chiefs are going to it, and they won.

[00:01:03] - Annanya Raghavan: The Eagles felt like a team of destiny coming into it. And I guess not. Guess I read the cards wrong, but it's all right. It was a great game. Half off to the teeth.

[00:01:17] - Mason Paine: Man, I have to say that last call, though, one of the things that I looked up is the NFL rigged. Did that trend at all or was that just for me?

[00:01:27] - Annanya Raghavan: No, we actually did see huge spikes in search interests. Not necessarily rigged, but is the NFL scripted, especially after I believe it was Arian Foster had his comments on the radio heading into Super Bowl Week that the NFL is scripted and pre planned out. So especially when you get a controversial call like that, I think people are going to wonder. But my two cents are that the Chief just played an overall better game and they deserve to win.

[00:02:02] - Mason Paine: Absolutely. They got that win. They did deserve it. I just as a sports fan, when a ref makes a call like that towards the end of the game, I feel like it impacts the game more than if they had made those types of calls in the beginning. And maybe as a ref should slow down a bit on calls like that and just let things play out. I don't know.

[00:02:25] - Annanya Raghavan: No, I agree. And like you said, with seeing those trending searches after the game, that's not what you want the conversation to be about because it takes away from what was otherwise a fantastic game of football.

[00:02:42] - Mason Paine: Absolutely. And I think Mahomes, he got the MVP for it, right?]]>

Google Top January Trends: Transcription

Mason Paine: New Year. And with that comes new trends. Sarah Armstrong, a Google Trends expert, joins me to break down the top search trends for January. Thanks for joining me, Sarah.

Sarah Armstrong: Thank you for having me.

Sarah Armstrong: So the month of January, a lot has happened and one of the biggest things, at least for me was the Golden Globes. Was that at least trending? I imagine it was for Google.

Sarah Armstrong: That was absolutely trending. Your right, the Golden Globes, they were on the 10th and lots of folks were searching for the red carpet, their favorite acceptance speeches. And we saw Jennifer Coolidge as the big trend of the night after her speech.

Mason Paine: Man, it was so funny. I really like Jennifer Coolidge. I love her. She's so hilarious and I'm so happy that she won something because she's so deserving of it.

Sarah Armstrong: Totally. She is such a treat. Did you watch the white Lotus?

Mason Paine: I actually haven't. I heard really good stuff about it. It's just so many things to watch.

Sarah Armstrong: Yeah, there are so many shows. She was just such a breakout star. So I think you're exactly right. People were really excited to see her. We also saw lots of interest in some of the House of the Dragon folks, which I still have yet to see. And Austin Butler from Elvis, he was searched a lot as well.

Mason Paine: See House of the Dragon? I haven't watched it at all. I've been seeing like YouTube clips and that's pretty much it. That's the limit of me. But from what I've seen, it looks excellent. And I'm kind of thinking of picking up something of the Game of Thrones spin off with here.

Sarah Armstrong: Totally. I've always been a little too afraid to watch Game of Thrones. I did finally get around to watching everything everywhere all at once because Michelle Yo was trending so much and it was very good.Mason Paine: Oh my God, I'm so happy you watched that because I loved that movie. I went in to the theater thinking it was just going to be a regular kung fu movie and I love Michelle Yo and it was like a mother daughter thing. And I was like, this is beautiful. I have everything I want. I have drama, action. You couldn't ask for more.Sarah Armstrong: It was beautiful. I loved it. Which, funny, as I thought it was only a mother daughter thing and I did not know about the action element. I was expecting like a ladybird kind of thing. So I was like, wow, you've also got the action and the drama. It's pretty awesome.

Mason Paine: And I thought it was really cool that the dude from Goonies was in it. Oh, I can't even remember his name, but I always remember him. Goonies. And he played in Indiana Jones as the kid.

Sarah Armstrong: Yeah, totally. And I'm blanking on his name as well. But yes, I'm so glad to see him getting all of that recognition.]]>

Mason Paine & Justin Burr: June Google Trends 2022

Mason Paine: It's June. And that means it's time to take a look at the top search trends on Google with our trends expert, Justin Burr. Thanks for joining me, Justin.

Justin Burr: Hey, thanks for having me.

Mason Paine: So tell me, what are some of the top trends, that happened in June?

Justin Burr: Well, let's say, you know, let's, let's not call a spade a spade. June's best month in the year, I would say, you know, I was birthed. We got the summer solstice it's summ-ery. Everybody's running around. But there's a lot of good stuff that happened as well. Outside of those things. Beyonce, Drake dropped some new tunes and admittedly, I liked them both.

Justin Burr: I honestly didn't even realize, I guess I wasn't really paying attention, but a couple hours ago I listened to both of their songs. So, Drake dropped an actual actually dropped a new album, but they're leading, Drake's leading song is sticky and it's great, man. I love Drake. It's a good song. And then Beyonce also dropped a song called break my soul, which everybody's accrediting with like the resurgence of house music and the fact that she's like capturing these like Chicago Detroit style, like house music roots and implemented them into her song, which it's a great song. I'm not gonna credit her with resurgence house music, cuz I don't think house music really went anywhere, but the songs are good. Have you listened?

Mason Paine: Personally I have not, but I have heard rumors that Drake's album is just trash and I was hoping you listened to it. I'm surprised you liked it. I heard a lot of people are like, oh, it's it doesn't sound like anything that he was doing before. And I'm thinking, well, isn't that an artist to explore and experiment with their future stuff.

Justin Burr: I think that people are just haters. Honestly, I think that the fun thing to do in 2022 is just to say that everything sucks and like everything that put people put out there, any like large artist put something out, I feel like people's knee jerk reactions say it sucks. I haven't listened the whole album, but the, the song sticky is sick.

Justin Burr: I was jamming on it for sure. And I just like Drake quite a bit. And I think he's super unique and the production style is awesome. And the beat is really cool. I haven't explored the entire album, but sticky. Sticky is a good one. I would pop it on as, Beyonce song as well. It's a very good summer happy vibes, pop it on sip and rose get in the sun. It's the whole thing.

Mason Paine: Now, besides that another fun thing that happened this month was the NBA finals. I know you watched it cuz I watched it. What'd you think of it?

Justin Burr: I know we're big NBA fans. You know, obviously I love the caliber of basketball that the golden state warriors bring night in and night out. Steph and Klay and mostly Steph is just so fun to watch. I mean, he's just such an incredible player and, and the shooting style that he's brought to the NBA,]]>

Mason Paine & Justin Burr: May Google Trends 2022

Mason Paine: It's that time of the month again in Google has released the top search trends for the month of May, 2022. Google trends expert. Justin Bird joins me to give her.

Mason Paine: Thanks for joining me, Justin really appreciate you being here, man.

Justin Burr: Thanks for having me, always pleasure,

Mason Paine: Tell me about med gala. Cause that happened this month.

Justin Burr: Yeah, the Met Gala, it's fun.

Justin Burr: I don't know anything about fashion, but I'm trying to become a more fashionable individual one. So it's fun to look at the Met Gala and see all the insane things these celebrities are wearing. So if you remember, the theme was gilded age and I don't know how much people really adhere to the theme. So the top trending celebrities from the female side, Kim Kardashians, she was trending because she wore Marilyn Monroe JFK's birthday dress.

Justin Burr: They track fairly iconic, pretty rad, stoked about it on the men side, bad bunny coming in as number one, he was wearing this like berberi. Like trench coat looking kind of thing, but it became a dress. So it was like, it was like a normal trench coat up top, but then it like filtered down into a dress below it looked cool.

Justin Burr: His hair was rad. I was into it. It's hard for me to really understand what's happening from a fashion perspective. But it's cool to look at.

Mason Paine: Yeah, I'd say I was trying to look up some stuff about Met gala and that stuff is really. You're either in it and you know it, or you don't know anything. And I kind of don't like that, that division right there, but it was either gilded age or gilded style.

Mason Paine: I saw such a division online about what exactly was the theme. I'm glad to know it was gilded age, which they didn't go by anyways.

Justin Burr: They never really go by the theme. And the theme is always super arbitrary as well. I think like the year before, the year before that it was camp. So it's like, what do you mean?

Justin Burr: Like you dress like you're going to summer camp or. I don't know, they just, the themes are interesting. I'm curious, like , who's in charge of that. And like, if you don't adhere to it, they kind of furrow your brow. Actually. Speaking of brows, Kendall Jenner, bleached her eye brows, and it looked, she looked pretty weird.

Justin Burr: So she's coming in number five on the trending list, but yeah, interesting to bleach the eyebrows. It looked like they were almost absent from her face, but if you look closely, you can still see them kind of cool look, honestly..

Mason Paine: So kind of like the Whoopi Goldberg, but she didn't shave it off kind of a effect.

Mason Paine: Another thing that happened, this month is mother's day. What did you get your mother, I'm just curious.
